  • I visited London last year.
  • I have visited London.

❌ Wrong participle

  • I have went to Berlin.

B1 Tip

When talking about your life experiences, remember:

Present Perfect = experience
  • I have visited Germany.
  • I have tried skiing.
  • I have never flown in a helicopter.
Past Simple = specific past event
  • I visited Germany in 2024.
  • I tried skiing last winter.
  • I flew in a helicopter when I was 18.

A useful pattern for conversations is:

Have you ever + past participle?
  • Have you ever lived abroad?
  • Have you ever met a famous person?
  • Have you ever learned another language?

This pattern is extremely common in everyday English at the B1 level.
