At B2, speakers often add words like trotzdem, dennoch, gleichwohl, immer noch, doch, or sogar, making the contradiction more explicit and stylistically richer.

This is by far the most common B2 pattern.

Although it was cold, we still went swimming.
Notice:
- obwohl already expresses contrast.
- trotzdem repeats and strengthens the idea.
English often does this too:
Although it was raining, we still went.

2. obwohl ... dennoch ...
Slightly more formal:
Obwohl die Aufgabe schwierig war, lösten wir sie dennoch.
Although the task was difficult, we solved it nevertheless.
Examples:
Obwohl sie nervös war, sprach sie dennoch ruhig.
Obwohl viele dagegen waren, wurde das Projekt dennoch umgesetzt.
3. obwohl ... trotzdem noch
Adds the meaning of still.
Obwohl er 80 Jahre alt ist, arbeitet er trotzdem noch jeden Tag.
Although he is 80, he still works every day.
4. obwohl ... sogar
The second clause becomes even more surprising.
Obwohl sie kaum Deutsch sprach, hielt sie sogar eine Präsentation.
Although she hardly spoke German, she even gave a presentation.
5. obwohl ... doch
Very common in spoken German.
Obwohl ich es wusste, habe ich doch einen Fehler gemacht.
Although I knew it, I still made a mistake.
Here doch emphasizes that the result is unexpected.
Meaning
Without enhancement:
Obwohl es regnete, gingen wir spazieren.
→ Simple contradiction.
With enhancement:
Obwohl es regnete, gingen wir trotzdem spazieren.
→ The contradiction becomes much stronger.

The subordinate clause keeps verb-final order.
Obwohl er wenig Zeit hatte, ...
The main clause keeps normal V2 order.
..., half er seiner Schwester trotzdem.
Not:
❌ ..., trotzdem half er seiner Schwester.
(This is actually correct if "trotzdem" occupies the first position.)
Both are possible:
..., half er trotzdem seiner Schwester.
or
..., Trotzdem half er seiner Schwester.
The difference is only emphasis.

Adding trotzdem after obwohl simply reinforces the contrast.
